Every few months I re-visit my moral compass and this time while going through "The journey of a lifetime" by Mr. Iger, I gather the below insights in form of quotes by Mr. Iger"

[Ok to feel bi-polar at times] "It was a happy day. It was also the saddest day of my career"

[Never allow fear to overcome you] "With few exceptions in my life, I have never worried too much about the future and I have never had too much fear about trying something and failing"...Something related to this that already existed in my moral compass was "Try and fail, but don't fail to try"

[Finding good in everything] My sister says I look for good in everything. Iger mentions 2 incidents - "cleaning gums from bottoms of a thousand desks builds character, or atleast a tolerance for monotony.." & "..experience of giving the people of Ithaca their daily weather report taught me a necessary skill, which is the ability to deliver bad news.."

[Gratitude] Iger expresses deep gratitude to Mr. Frank Sinatra and still holds the lighter gifted to him in deep regard while also thanking his previous boss for telling him "He was no longer promotable"

[Eye on profitability and sincerity] Iger, initial in his career worked with 2 amazing bosses who used to tell him "No more bottomless expense accounts"

[Garden variety ambition] "My instinct throughout my career has always been to say yes to every opportunity..."

To discuss more on these, I have had numerous conversations with people working in different walks of life - male/female/old/young/corporate professionals/self-employed proprietors - few call these quotes idealistic while some find these realistic

While building the moral compass I have also related these to the learnings from Indian holy script Shrimad Bhagvad Gita which calls for "focus on the karma....without wishing for the reward..."

How do you see these? Do you also have a moral compass? What are your guiding principles?
