The Week Unpacked with Analyst Ankur : What we speak and what we do?

👉 [Private players in defence] While defense minister explicitly calls out "INR 50 Crore to be a good amount, only 79 projects being funded in 6 years and only 18 moving to development stage speaks of the acute shortage of funds and efforts. Earlier this year I remember hearing Neel Mehta, Asteria Aerospace Limited when he mentioned that unlike Automotive where the whole ecosystem is available, in next-gen areas such as drones a startup has to create from scratch across all sub-segments (hardware, software, embedded, customer service functions). With the context, is the funding up-to INR 50 Cr sufficient?

👉 [Vistara post-merger] Post-merger Vistara - TATA SIA Airlines Ltd. and Air India Limited will hold distinguished identities as UK955 coding becomes AI2955 with explicit callout that customers will know while booking if they are booking for AI or Vistara. Isn't it clashing against the callout to unify each other's best practices. Either you unify or stay separate under one umbrella?

👉 [Grover ends dispute] Ashneer Grover is an emotional man and he has taken the right step in moving on from something he cared for and deeply loved. A lesson for all of us to move on and heal our wounds. His energy and intelligence will be put to better use now?

👉 [Imports from China...] During my consulting project at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade CRT, I was astonished to know that China has 1500 notifications while India had only 100 then, these notifications are basically guidelines into packaging, labelling - in short how to restrict imports into China. Did you know they even had these written in Chinese and our exporters had to get scholars from Delhi University to translate. Till when we will be stuck with just changes in duty structure?

👉 [Unsecured Lending] Couple of weeks back, I had covered woes at YES BANK and how they were scaling down the new business there, this week Navi and couple of other NBFCs faced Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s heat. Now Standard Chartered moved out of the space. Why should Kotak Mahindra Bank be any different - do they have superior underwriting practices?

👉 [Gold surge] Over past couple of months, since the market has been on surge spree and valuations touched record highs, I have insisted people in my known circles to ramp-up their gold holdings. While it improves psychological safety for many, I have faced and continue to face lot of criticism for dampening their overall portfolio returns. How do you see gold?
