- Initial Context

Network slicing has been a hot topic in the 5G space for quite sometime now, Ericsson explains Network slicing as tech which allows mobile networks to be partitioned into virtual network elements (‘slices’) on top of a common shared physical infrastructure. Each network slice can be customized to meet the specific needs of applications, services, devices, customers, or operators. Think of a network slice as a type of private network, with the appropriate isolations, but running on a public network with specified quality of experience parameters in place.

- Who are the key stakeholders here ?

We have the communication service providers (CSPs) which majorly includes Telco players (airtel, Jio and others) and Media and Entertainment players (Amazon, Netflix), then we have the enterprises heavily focused on 5G tech like Nokia Ericsson Qualcomm and finally we have our engineering service providers Capgemini Engineering Wipro Tata Consultancy Services Infosys Accenture and the likes of them

- Why India ?

As Peter Jarich mentions "India matters here because when we look at things such as broadband growth, we look at connections growth for fixed broadband, and we see strong growth in markets like Romania and Brazil. For markets like India, (there is a) huge untapped opportunity for things like 5G FWA"

- What is the importance of defined use case cum monetization strategy ?

The tech stack for network slicing has been here for quite some time but due to lack of defined use cases and monetization strategy, the tech has been on hold for quite some time. But this opportunity presents a well defined problem with customized solution set - thus building a strong business case
